- Our first project to assist children with acute leukemia was in early 1993, providing funds for an 11-month-old boy to be treated successfully abroad. President Gorbachev wrote personally to thank us for this life-saving assistance.
- Also during 1993, we began working closely with President Gorbachev's Research Institute of Pediatric Hematology. We arranged for special air transport of a large quantity of Vumon, a chemotherapy drug used to treat children with leukemia. The medicine, valued at $400, 000, was sent by air packed in dry ice.
"I have great respect and admiration for you as an outstanding humanitarian whose life has been devoted to good deeds and a tireless caring for your fellow human beings..."
