Distributing items ...most memorable moments 2

In 2005 the New Zealand OHTS Office received a call from a family offering us a pedal sewing machine.

We did not have a specific country to offer this machine to at the time but knowing how beneficial this item would be to someone we gratefully accepted this donation. We then started to make enquiries with our contacts in the Pacific and received this letter back from Samoa.

"...The sewing machine and typewriter will be welcome if you can get them to us. There is a very needy family who live in the bush near the city - squatters really and the husband is semi paralysed. If the wife could make an income through sewing that would be a tremendous help. There are a number of seamstresses here so it really is a cottage industry."

Letter dated March 05

The pedal sewing machine was delivered to the family mid-year 2005 and they were so grateful to be able to start their small business.

Pedal sewing machines are so useful for people in developing countries and mean new opportunity to create a small business. Opportunity is one of the key factors in lifting people out of poverty. If you know of a pedal sewing machine that is available and in good condition please contact an OHTS office near you for them to collect. Thanks!
