Liberia

Clone of Liberia´s request

Following 18 years of civil war and the loss of almost 150,000 lives, the United Nations established a peace-building force in Liberia in 1997. Progress was made, but many of the underlying conflicts continued, until in July 2003 it seemed that full civil war was about to resume. On August 18th, 2003, all the parties signed a Comprehensive Peace Agreement. They asked the United Nations to establish a peacekeeping force in Liberia.

Radios for Liberians

Thousands of radios were distributed by an international aid organisation to the villagers. This allowed them to learn of many of the programmes arranged to assist them, and also to get up-to-date and accurate information.

Medical supplies and pharmaceuticals

Hospital equipment, medical and surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals have been collected by our offices in Austria, Canada, Great Britain and the United States. The 1,200 boxes were sent in three large sea containers during March 2004.
