Rainwater harvesting systems

Chubut Province, Argentina, Alstom/Green Cross/The Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles, June, 2012
The world is facing a major water crisis.  900 million people are living without clean sources of drinking water and 2.6 billion have no access to adequate hygiene and sanitation. The Sri Chinmoy Centres through it’s humanitarian service branch, the Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles, wanted to support the Green Cross programme, “Smart Water for Green Schools”.  This programme offers concrete solutions to improve the lives of people affected by “water poverty”. Through the collaboration of a  volunteer of The Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles with the Alstom Foundation, the Green Cross was able to receive a large sum to fund a project in six primary schools in Argentina.  Rainwater harvesting systems will be built in each school. The project will further provide ecological latrine facilities, hygiene and sanitation education and an environmental awareness programme in the six schools.  As with the Bali Rainwater tank project, the Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles will provide the link between Alstom Foundation and the Green Cross to facilitate communication.
